I have posted the exam for CIS2230 and re-opened the quizzes. Please catchup on all the outstanding quizes and take the exam. I will leave anything posted on blackboard open until the end of the semester, but I would recommend completing the exam and quizzes as soon as possible. I will close them before the final exam.
I want to ensure that we have enough time for three exams this semester. I think I’m running a little behind, but not to worry, we should be able to get through three exams before the final. I like having more small exams than doing one big one in the middle of the semester. You can average a bad day out of a grade over a few exams.
Look on blackboard for an exam this week!
I figured out a way to post my audio files, so the lectures will continue. Here’s episode 8. Users and passwords. The assignment is to read chapter six. In this episode we cover: passwd and group files, shells, captive accounts, .profile, adduser command line, removing account and looking for left over logic bombs, picking good passwords, educating users on passwords, managing passwords.

I’m working on a solution to allow me to post lecturecasts while I’m away. Right now I can’t ftp the .mp3 and .m4a files from the hotel because of some fairly severe bandwidth restrictions and filtering.

Here’s a nice article about the /bin/sh author. System admin students should read this.
Chapter three run through.

I had a schedule conflict and I can’t make it to SANS Orlando this year. I wonder if I could be that close to Disney and still concentrate on the course. I rarely miss the SANS @night stuff. But it would be a hard struggle not to skip out to Epcot or Downtown for an evening of frivolity.
Hopefully next year I’ll be able to keep March clear.
It took me 3:09:48 to complete the exam, but I finished it and wound up with a 94. Great thanks go to Tom for proctoring and Eric for instructing.
Episode six is a review of how to read and use Linux man pages. This is covered in depth in chapter three. That’s the assignment for the week, read chapter
three.
